INTRODUCTION: This class will take a holistic approach to how psychology can be applied in the varied aspects of our life. This is a very personal class reflecting on many of the aspects of being a human. As a student you will be asked to look deeply into areas of Self such as learning, human development, stress, love, identity, work, and loss. While offered in a “safe” environment, this class does require deep personal investigation of one’s own self within a community of others.

TEXT BOOK: Corey, G. & Corey, M.S. (2006). I Never New I Had A Choice: Explorations In Personal Growth (8th ed.) Belmont, CA: Thomson Brooks/Cole

OTHER SUPPLIES: Journal; Wellness Index

ATTENDANCE: To meet the expectations of the class you must attend class. There is a very high relationship between attendance and success in all college classes. You will not be fulfilling your personal and social obligations to this class if you are not in attendance. There is no difference between an excused and unexcused absence.

* Students will not be dropped from the class. College policy allows a student to initiate a "W" at the registrars office up until 70% of the class has been completed. After that point, the student will receive his or her appropriate, earned grade.

* Students who miss a test may reschedule to take the test within one week. However, you must contact the instructor within 24 hours of the time the original test was given to schedule a makeup test. In addition, you will receive a grade no better than a B on the rescheduled test.

* No other graded material will be accepted after the end of class on the date the assignment is due.

If a class is cancelled for any reason, check Blackboard for information about future classes.

REQUIREMENTS: The following outlines the assessment procedures in this class.

Unit Tests (30%)

There will be three unit exams. They will use multiple assessments techniques.

Chapter Assignments & Journal (30%)

The book for this class is an “unfinished text.” Meaning that besides reading, you have to add your part to each chapter. This includes personal inventories and reflections questions. This you will do in a personal journal and the textbook. In addition, you submit a summary reflection weekly via Blackboard.

Group/Classroom Participation (10%)

Because of the interactive nature of this class, group and classroom participation is imperative. At the end of the class, each person will be evaluated by the members in their group as well as the instructor.
