EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

 

Key Findings

 

Headcount

·       Headcount for Winter, 2001 is up 3.5 percent (422 students) from last winter.  This is the largest Winter headcount since 1996. (Table 1)

 

Credit Hours

·       Credit hours for Winter, 2001 are up 6.3 percent (5914) from last winter.  This is the largest Winter head count since 1994. (Table 2)

 

Arts and Sciences/Workforce Development Increases

·       Gains in Arts and Sciences credits are leading the way with a 7.6 percent increase.  The increase for Workforce Development is 3.6 percent. (Table 3)

 

·       Arts and Sciences programs with the largest percentage increase in credit enrollments include: Performing Arts at 27 percent, Hospitality Education* at 19.8 percent, Behavioral Sciences at 12.8 percent, and Social Sciences at 12.5 percent. (Table 4)

 

·       Workforce Development departments with the largest percentage increase in credit enrollments include:  Radiologic Technology at 18.8 percent, Dental Auxiliary programs at 16.8 percent, and Drafting and Design at 10.1 percent.

 

Total Number of Lecture Sections/Average Number of Students Per Section

·       The total number of lecture sections offered for Winter, 2001 is 1522.  The average number of students per section is 21.8. (Table 5)

 

Persistence Rates

·       The Fall 2000 to Winter 2001 persistence rate for beginning, degree-seeking freshman is 77.5 percent, up from 75.9 percent for Fall 1999 to Winter 2000. (Table 6)

 

Gender

·       Male students comprise 52.4 percent of the total winter enrollment similar to the Winter 2000 percentage. (Table 7)

 

Age

·       Thirty-nine percent of Winter, 2001 students are age 25 or older.  This number is slightly down from 41 percent in Winter, 2000. (Table 8)

 

Ethnicity

·       The percentage of total students from minority populations is 16 percent.  (Table 9)

 

 

Fulltime Students/Fulltime Equivalency

·       The proportion of students who attend GRCC full time for Winter, 2001 is 34 percent, up slightly from 32.5 percent in Winter, 2000. (Table 10)

 

·       The average FTE (full time equivalent) for Winter, 2001 is 6458.  This is the highest FTE since Winter, 1994.  The average number of credits enrolled is 8.1, slightly higher than Winter 2000 at 7.9. (Table 11)

 

Out of District

·       The proportion of total enrollment who come from outside Kent county (GRCC service area) is 25.4 percent, virtually the same as in past years.  (Table 12)

 

KISD High School Participation Rate

·       The percentage of all KISD service area Spring, 2000 college bound graduates attending GRCC in Fall, 2000 was 25 percent, down from 29 percent for Fall, 1999. (Table 13)

 

 

*Hospitality education, although an occupational program, is administered under the School of Arts and Sciences.
