EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

 

Key Findings

 

Headcount

·        Headcount for Winter 2004 is up 0.5 percent (69 students) from last winter.  This is the largest Winter headcount since 1993. (Table 1)

 

Credit Hours

·        Credit hours for Winter 2004 are up 1.4 percent (1630 credits) from last winter.  This is the largest Winter credit hour count for any Winter semester at GRCC. (Table 2)

 

Arts and Sciences/Workforce Development Increases

·        Gains in Workforce Development credits are leading the way with a 3.0 percent increase.  The increase for Arts and Sciences is 0.7 percent. (Table 3)

 

·        Arts and Sciences programs with the largest percentage increase in credit enrollments include: Language and Thought at 5.7 percent, Physical Sciences at 5.2 percent, and Wellness at 4.8 percent.  Programs with the largest percentage decrease are English at   -4.9 percent and Performing Arts at –3.9 percent. (Table 4)

 

·        Workforce Development departments with the largest percentage increase in credit enrollments include:  Applied Technology at 16.7 percent, Child Development at 14.6 percent, and Accounting/Office Administration/Business at 4.5 percent.  Programs with the largest percentage decrease are Nursing at -7.6 percent and Dental Auxiliary Programs at at -3.7 percent (Table 4).  Note: the decrease in Nursing (ADN, General Health, and PN programs) is due to a curriculum revision in the ADN program and new Fall section offering for PN; the Dental Auxiliary Program decrease was due largely to the elimination of 1 clinic section (6 students/6 credits). 

 

Total Number of Lecture Sections/Average Number of Students Per Section

·        The total number of lecture sections offered for Winter 2004 is 1659 (down 1 from last winter).  The average number of students per section is 23.3 (compared to 23.0 last winter). (Table 5)

 

Persistence Rates

·        The Fall 2003 to Winter 2004 persistence rate for beginning, degree-seeking freshman is 80.0 percent, down slightly from 80.8 percent from Fall 2002 to Winter 2003. The Academic Foundations Program persistence rate is 73.2 percent, down from 76.7 percent last year. (Table 6)

 

Gender

·        Female students comprise 50.3 percent of the total winter enrollment, up from 50.1 percent last winter.  Males make up 49.7 percent of the student population.  (Table 7)

 

Age

·        36.0 percent of Winter 2004 students are age 24 or older.  This number is down from 36.3 percent in Winter, 2003. (Table 8)

 

·        The average age of students is 24.7 years.  This is down slightly from last year’s 24.8 years. (Table 9)

 

Ethnicity

·        The percentage of total students from minority populations is now at 19.1 percent.  (Table 10)

 

 

Fulltime Students/Fulltime Equivalency

·        The proportion of students who attend GRCC full time for Winter 2004 is 39.6 percent, up slightly from 39.0 percent in Winter, 2003. (Table 11)

 

·        The average FTE (full time equivalent) for Winter 2004 is 7662.  This is the highest FTE ever for a winter semester at GRCC.  The average number of credits enrolled is 8.8, slightly higher than last winter’s average of 8.7. (Table 12)

 

Out of District

·        The proportion of total enrollment who come from outside KISD service region is 27.0 percent.  Last winter’s proportion was 26.9 percent.  (Table 13)

 

Credits by Location and Time

·        The number of credits taken on the main campus comprised 90.4% of the total; 4.4% of classes are now taken via television or over the web, down from 5.0% last winter. (Table 14)
