English 293 Shakespeare in Performance updated 3/10/00
Students interested in a unique first hand opportunity to study and see the works of William Shakespeare performed in his native land are invited to take English 293 through Grand Rapids Community College .  This course is being organized by David Cope, an instructor at GRCC with a deep personal interest in Shakespeare and his contemporaries. 

Students will spend two weeks of this four week course in England participating in lectures at  Solihull College, an institution located in a suburb of Birmingham, England's second largest city.   They will also attend performances of the Royal Shakespeare Company and be given the opportunity to visit London on a weekend.  Students are expected to keep a journal of their trip to England and complete a formal paper focused on matters related to performance criticism of the plays the see performed.
